“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”
– Carl Rogers
Adults
I work with adults who want to live happier and more connected lives. You may be experiencing anxiety or depression, you may be having difficulties in your relationships, and you may have experienced trauma that has been overwhelming to deal with on your own.
My approach with adult clients is tailored to your needs — you may only want one or two sessions because you’re going through a tough time and you want solutions. Or, you may want to establish an ongoing relationship to dig into issues and analyze them more deeply. I am always inclined to focus on the present and make every session count toward the goals you want to achieve.
My work with adults has targeted anxiety, depression, trauma, and parenting. I’m trained in neuroscience principles that help you “rewire” your brain to decrease distress. Most recently, my work with inmates has given me a breadth of experience in treating essentially any problem of the human experience. Before that, I either treated parents who needed support while their child was in therapy, or I treated adults who experienced past trauma and had never sought help until then.
“If you plan on being anything less than what you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life.”
-Abraham Maslow
Adolescents
To you–
So you’re not legally an adult, and you’re definitely not a child, but the stress you feel is the same as any adult’s. And there’s so much more pressure because of social media. You might be guarded, you may have had a trauma, and the idea of talking to a stranger sounds weird, but I want you to know that if you meet with me, it’s all about YOU. Full session, just us, talking about you. Yes, your parents will be involved (in whatever ways we talk about) because you live with them, and I want to help you deal with life and everything that involves, which includes your family. But I’m excited to build a relationship with you and help you figure out how to live your best life.
To Parents — My work with teens has involved trauma, anxiety, depression, juvenile delinquency, and substance abuse. I treat all teens with positive regard and an understanding of their supporting systems; I meet them where they’re at and help them figure out how to grow within their systems, which means I’ll be working with you as well at some point!
(For use with specific population as discussed during consult):
Multisystemic Therapy —
I became certified in MST while working in homes and schools with children and adolescents who displayed antisocial behavior and were becoming delinquent. It focuses on how their behavior is being influenced by the systems they’re apart of (school, family, peers, etc.), and how they think and feel about those systems. I would not implement this therapy in the intensive way that it’s designed for, but I can use its principles and resources to help your child that is struggling.
